Miss OC Pageant - Holiday

This job is what you could call seasonal, but she chose not to call it so. Most would call her a full-time fright, but she saw herself as nothing more than a volunteer for a good cause. If that cause required her to scare the trousers off a crotchety old man then so be it.
At the chime of a neighboring clock, she stretched out a ghostly pale hand to pull back the curtains from the bed. The old man blinked in the sudden light and stuttered incomprehensibly. She gave him a moment to regain his composure.
“Are- are you the spirit, sir, wh-wh-who’s coming? Who was foretold to me?”
Spirit indeed. She suppressed a smile. “I am.”
“Wh-who and what are you?”
She recited words given her, “I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.”
The man’s eyes widened. “L-long past?”
“No,” she almost giggled, but managed to keep her face blank. “Your past.”
“Wh-what brings you here?”
“Your welfare.” She took his bony hand in hers. “Rise and walk with me.”




This is probably the last one you’ll see from me this time around. Everyone else’s entries are so spectacular I’m sure to drop out of the running. But oh well, it was a good run, and there’s always next year! ^^
